Faye Alexander Jenkins
Faye studied painting and drawing at the South Australian School of Art, North Adelaide and later completed a photography and design course. Further studies included wax and clay sculpture in Adelaide and Melbourne as well as painting with Robert Hannaford and Peter Wegner. While in China, Faye sketched and painted the spectacular limestone karsts along the River Li from Guilin to Yangshuo. Now painting full time, she is exploring geological features as motifs as well as other parts of the Australian landscape and when sailing along the south east coast of Tasmania, the basalt magma formations have been another source of inspiration. Recently, the artist completed a series of images showing different allegories of human rights as well as the destruction of the environment. She continues to explore visual philosophy in an individual way, often using rocks and boulders as metaphors. The work of this artist has been accepted into many of Australia’s prestigious Art Prizes, including the Fleurieu $50,000 Landscape Prize, the Cromwell $45,000 Contemporary Prize and the Prometheus $15,000 Art Prize and her paintings are in private collections in Australia, UK, USA, Italy, Jordan and Japan. |
